LET BRITAIN DECIDE
|
Hi ayoub,
Today, Conservatives will vote to give the British public a say on Europe.
The last time we had a vote on Europe was in 1975. In that time, so much has changed. The EU has more power, more influence and more member states - but the British people have had no say over these changes.
David Cameron has already stopped some of the rot.
He's stopped giving our taxpayers' money to European countries that need bailing out when they go bust. And he's stood firm against an European Treaty that would have given even more powers to Brussels.
Still, many people believe it's already too late. So many powers have been transferred that simply protecting our future is no longer enough - we need a complete renegotiation of our settlement with Europe.
Conservatives agree. So today, we’re backing a Bill brought forward by Conservative James Wharton MP that will lead to a renegotiation of our EU settlement.
And if MPs vote to pass that Bill in the Commons today, the British people will get to decide if that's good enough for Britain in a referendum by 2017 – simply to stay in, or get out of Europe altogether.
But - incredibly - Conservatives are the only mainstream party who are bold enough to offer that referendum.
Labour leader Ed Miliband has even demanded his MPs stay away from the vote today. He's determined to deny the British people a referendum on Europe.
So we need to put pressure on the other parties to back our plans.
That’s why today, I want to ask you to join our campaign to back the Bill on a Referendum.
For the first time, you can actually Co-Sponsor the Bill here.
You'll join thousands of people across the country in adding your voice to those calling for a referendum.
So back the Bill here and help us to Let Britain Decide today.
Best wishes,
Grant Shapps
