The Deputy Chairperson made reference to the 50 year Anniversary of the AU, stating that" it affords us the opportunity to sharpen our vision which reflects a clear determination of Africans becoming fully responsible for their own sustainable development and shared growth through African resources".
Outlining the importance of the theme of this high level event; “Aid as Catalyst for Domestic Resource Mobilization in Africa - Africa Looking Within” as both timely and relevant; the Deputy Chairperson emphasized his belief that a truly sovereign Africa should convey self-reliance and not dependence. This would go a long way in increasing revenues collected from taxes and likewise, the strengthening of accountability systems of tax revenue authorities would ensure sustainability of these resources collected from taxation, he added.
