African Union Workshop on the Implementation and Domestication of the AU Convention on the Protection and Assistance to Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (Kampala Convention)
INVITATION TO REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA
When: 18 – 19 July 2013
Where: Lusaka Zambia.
Who: The Humanitarian Affairs, Refugees and Displaced Persons Division, Department of Political Affairs, African Union Comission, will be organizing a workshop on the domestication and implementation of the Kampala Convention.
Purpose: The purpose of this workshop is to establish a dialogue for action in countries that have ratified the Kampala Convention to facilitate the future process for
domesticating and implementing the Convention.
Objectives: As part of the implementation of the African Union Plan of Action on the outcomes of the 2009 AU Special Summit on Refugees, the African Union Commission seeks to support Member States to implement the Kampala Convention. During the Special Summit, Member States requested the support of the African Union in implementing the Kampala Convention. In response to this request, the African Union Commission has developed the Model Law on the Kampala Convention that can be used to facilitate domestication of the Kampala Convention.
Participants Participants include national delegates from the Government of Zambia, Lesotho and Swaziland. Representatives from the Civil Societies, relevant UN agencies, Humanitarian Actors, AU Commission and other AU organs.
