African Union Commissioner and French Minister discuss on key areas of collaboration
Monday 08 July, 2013- The Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture at the African Union Commission (AUC), Mrs. Rhoda Peace Tumusiime today held discussions with the France Minister of Development, Mr. Pascal CANFIN in her office at the AU headquarters, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Mrs. Tumusiime and Mr. Canfin discussed on the key areas of cooperation within the framework of climate change, agricultural development and energy sector.
During the bilateral meeting the Commissioner noted the AUC structural and common approaches on the issues of climate change.
She also indicated the implementation gap regarding the censuses of various climate talks. “There haven’t been transparencies on implementation of the agreed components of climate change issues”, she added.
The Commissioner underlined the importance of strategic approaches that climate change issues can be reflected better.
“We are far behind what we should have done”, said the minister while assuring the support of the French government on the areas of climate change.
The two parties underscored the importance of innovative financing and better strategic approach towards the implementation on climate change agenda, and other key areas that they have agreed to work together.
