The 10th Annual Gathering of Africa’s Best (GAB) Awards holds in London on Sunday November 9 2008.
The GAB Awards was founded in 1999 by The Trumpet Newspaper as a forum for the Best of Africa and friends of Africa to come together to network and showcase the very best that Africa has to offer. The GAB Awards also rewards excellence among Africans and Friends of Africa on the continent and in the Diaspora.
The GAB Awards are highly coveted and its importance acknowledged by the Mayor of London, when in 2007, the GAB Awards was celebrated as part of the Mayor of London’s Black History Month season.

Calling all Restaurants and Food Retailers in London!
The Trumpet Newspaper – Britain’s largest distributed African publication is publishing a directory focusing on the London African community’s vibrant, fast growing and thriving Restaurants and Food Retailers sector.
The Trumpet African Restaurant and Food Retailer Directory will showcase the profiles of five major Traders / Distributors / Manufacturers in the African Food industry and Fifty-six leading African Restaurants. The directory would also contain a listing of 150 of African Restaurants and 50 African Food Retailers.

Babcock University fundraises in UK
One of Nigeria’s leading private universities, Babcock University, working with Cornerstone Foundation (Global) Ltd, a UK registered charity is launching an ambitious project to bring about a renaissance in healthcare and education in Nigeria.
The ‘Touch the Future 2008 - 2012 Capital Campaign’ is rooted in addressing the issues of the nation. While this campaign will not cure all that ails the country, once realised, it will change the lives of the hundreds of thousands it touches and usher in the prospect of a better future.
Funds raised will go to build, staff and equip a College of Health and Medical Sciences that will have schools in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, public and allied health, nursing and an African Care Sciences and Discovery Centre to support medical research. It will also include a 750- bed teaching hospital- with a 200-bed Children’s Hospital.
Funds raised will also go towards establishing a Technology Park, which will serve as a vocational community college and a Scholarship Endowment Fund to give support to gifted but poor students to enable them to access higher education.
Already launched in Nigeria and the US, the UK leg will be kick started by a gala banquet at the Hilton Hotel, Watford, on 5th October 2008 to be hosted by Gillian Joseph from Sky News and Dr. Richard de Lisser.
Guests will be treated to various presentations by Babcock’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Makinde and members from the Babcock alumni. Performances on the night will be conducted by Adanta - African dance troupe who in the past performed for the Queen’s Jubilee.
