About Councillor Tayo Situ

Major Tayo SituCllr Tayo Situ was appointed as Mayor of Southwark at Council Assembly on 19 May 2010.

A councillor in Peckham since 2002, the Mayor came to the UK from Nigeria in 1985. He studied accountancy at South Bank University and now runs his own business. As a Councillor, his priorities are to see more jobs for local people and better services for the young and vulnerable.

He lives locally and is a trustee and elder of his church. He is a devoted husband, father to five children and also a grandfather. His wife Mrs Abike Situ is his consort for the year and his son Michael is also a councillor.

Role of the Mayor

The role of Mayor is a non political one and the Mayor represents every section of the community.

The Mayor is the Borough's First Citizen and represents Southwark at hundreds of civic, ceremonial and social engagements throughout the year.

In addition the Mayor presides at meetings of the Council so that its business can be carried out efficiently and with regard to the rights of Councillors and the interests of the community.

The Deputy Mayor

Cllr Lorraine Lauder was appointed Deputy Mayor at Annual Assembly on 19 May 2010. The Deputy Mayor will undertake the duties of the Mayor should he be unavailable. Her consort for the year is her son, John Lauder

The Mayor's charity

The Mayor's charity for the year is MacMillan Cancer Research UK.






Good morning friends of OBV

This weeks very sad news was the loss of Amanda Howells, a truly good women who, like her mother Baroness Howells, cared so much for the Black community.
