Macharia Gakuru moved to the UK from Kenya in 1995. He is the founder of a community magazine – Eastern Africa Magazine first published in the UK in 2000 and he is also co-founder of the Western Africa Magazine. He has traveled extensively all over Africa including Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania and many countries in Europe. Gakuru is also a TV broadcaster and producer on African TV Channel, Ben TV, Channel 198 on Sky. He is the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) representative in the UK and is also a commentator on both print and visual media including BBC, CNN, Aljazeera among others. On the social front he has been in the fore-front in raising theprofile of Africa. In 2005 he organized African open day supported byseveral London High Commissions and Embassies in line with Commission for Africa. The Chief Guest was HE Amanya Mushega, East Africa Secretary General. In 2002 he was part of Her Majesty the Queen’s jubilee celebrations wherehe presented the Queen and Prince Philip with pictures of the Tree -Tops Kenya, where they were staying during their honeymoon on the night she became the Queen in 1952. His publication The Eastern Africa magazine won the most outstanding Kenyan publication in the UK in 2004. In 2009, Gakuru was voted by Kenyans as the most outstanding Kenyan journalist and writer in the UK.
