MEET H.E. Mr. Edward M. Turay -Sierra Leone High Commissioner

UK and Northern Ireland


A Barrister by profession, studied in England, called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1976, practised in Jamaica for a while, Returned home to Sierra Leone in 1979 and Served as a Magistrate for three years. Then joined politics in 1982. In 1986 won a seat as a Member of Parliament for Bombali Central one Constituency.

He held the seat up to January 2010. During this period His Excellency has served as the Secretary General of the ruling APC party. Then Minority Leader of the House of Parliament from 1996 to 2002, after he contested for the Presidency and lost in 1996. In 2007 appointed Leader of the Majority party in the Parliament and Leader of Government Business, until January 2010 when he was appointed Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, and accredited to eight other states – namely Cyprus, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Greece.

He has served in almost all Parliamentary Committees either as Chairman or a Member and was the Chairman for the Judicial Committee for over ten years. He is the Founder and Consultant of Eddie Turay & Associates, a leading Law Firm in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
