Vote For The Greenway!

Hi everyone ,

A great opportunity has arisen to get behind and support one of Newham’s great walking and cycling routes the Greenway! The traffic-free route is a favourite with pedestrians, ramblers, cyclists, schools and nature lovers, but it could do with some TLC

The Greenway is one of Newham’s hidden gems and is a unique seven kilometre green corridor linking Hackney’s Victoria Park to Beckton. The Greenway slices through the borough, much of it at roof height, providing stunning views of our heritage, landscape and regeneration sites. The site is also a super-highway for rare wildlife and will also become one of the easiest ways to beat the traffic and walk to the Olympic Park.

Mayor of London , Boris Johnson, has announced that he has grants of up to £400,000 up for grabs to make areas like the Greenway cleaner, greener, safer and more enjoyable. But it’s not the council that has to convince City Hall. We need you to vote for the Greenway - the more votes we get the more chance we have of securing these vital funds, which will make a real difference to the Greenway and, ultimately, to people like you who use it.

We propose to use funds to upgrade:
Existing entrances
Access ramps and steps
Barriers and fencing
Street furniture and signage.
We’d also use the money to create new entrances, improve links to the Greenway and nearby green spaces.
