AUC signs MoU with Huawei for Partnership on ICT

The African Union Commission and Huawei on Tuesday, 27th January 2015 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for partnership at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The signing ceremony that took place at the sidelines of the 26th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council was done by H.E Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) and Mr. David Harmon, Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs Dept. and both pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation in ICT development and promoting commercial progress of the continent through ICT innovation. 

The MoU is aimed at enhancing the existing partnership between the AU Commission and HUAWEI on various fields of common interest such as Information and Communication Technology HICT) literacy and capability and ICT infrastructure development.

The AUC Deputy Chairperson welcomed the initiative and said this MOU will help to consolidate the existing cooperation ties between the AU and HUAWEI. :"ICT development will drive tremendous transformation in different industries, and what we need is partners like Huawei to work with us in sharing experience and knowledge” he noted.
 In the same vein, Mr. David Harmon expressed satisfaction to the partnership between the AU and his government. He reiterated the willingness of his country to support the efforts of the AU to build a better-connected Africa in strengthening local infrastructure and ICT industry.  “With our 17 years of experience within Africa’s ICT industry coupled with an extensive industry global network Huawei is committed to promote global ICT industry development, to share best practices, experience and latest ICT solutions.”
