24th AU Summit Elects a New Bureau for the year 2015
Addis Ababa 31 January 2015 - The assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) meeting at their 24th Ordinary Session at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, elected on 30th January 2015 a new bureau to pilot the activities of the Union for the year 2015.
The newly elected Chair of the African Union is HE. Robert Mugabe President of the Republic of Zimbabwe. He is taking over from HE. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz , President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania who has been chairing the Union for the past year 2014.
The other members elected for the AU bureau are as follows:
- 1st Vice Chair Democratic Republic of Congo
- 2nd Vice Chair Republic of Niger
- 3rd Vice Chair Republic of Kenya ; and the
- Rapporteur Islamic Republic of Mauritania
