Programme Funding Research Intern
Location: Tunbridge Wells

Build Africa is a dynamic charity working exclusively in rural areas of Africa to help communities escape poverty through education and income generation. Reporting to the Programme Funding Officer, you’ll gain vital hands-on experience in the field of research and programme funding, learn what international development is all about in a very practical context and ultimately increase your competitiveness when applying for paid positions in the sector.
This is an unsalaried internship. We will reimburse travel costs and make a lunch allowance.
What this post offers: The opportunity to gain insight into the work of an international development charity and experience in the field of programme funding.
Responsible to: Programme Funding Officer
Role: The successful candidate will complete targeted prospect research and activities to assist in identification of potential funders that are appropriate for the Programme Funding team to develop relationships with and secure funding for our work. The successful candidate will assist in the early stages of communication with potential funders, developing proposals and feedback reports.
Main duties:
• Online web and database searches to gain insight into a potential donor’s background and giving policies
• Put together detailed, referenced research donor profiles on institutions to help determine their philanthropic interests
• Collate research and prepare reports in a clear and concise manner
• Research and analysis of international development data, in support of Build Africa applications and reports
• Prepare data and materials for proposals
• Maintaining relevant sections on the Raisers Edge fundraising database
• Assist in preparation of proposals and feedback reports
Person Specification:
• Strong research skills, particularly in online research
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work using own initiative
• Good judgement and ability to prioritise workload
• Highly organised and systematic
• An attention to detail and the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner
• Excellent command of the English Language
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
• Good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel
Commitment: We would be looking for a commitment of two to three days per week for three months.

Hello,
I’ve just given a speech on what One Nation Labour will do in government to control public spending and get Britain working – and I wanted to make sure you heard direct from me about it because this is how we are going to turn our economy round, protect our NHS, and build a stronger country.
Here’s the quick version:
We all know Labour in 2015 will have less money to spend, because the Tories have failed on the economy. So we are going to take action on the big problems our country faces to control spending:
- Cut costs by helping the long-term unemployed back to work
- Make sure jobs are well-paid to reward work, so the state does not face rising subsidies for low pay
- Get the cost of renting down by ensuring more homes are built – thereby reducing the welfare bill
- Cap social security spending by focusing on the deep-rooted reasons benefit spending goes up.
