The Week in Pictures covers the just concluded Policy Organs meetings held in Lusaka, Zambia on 6th December, 2010.

Highlights:-

· Council of Ministers Meeting
Minsters resposible for COMESA activities in Members States converged in Lusaka, Zambia to review the progress made so far and to chart the way forward as far as the integration agenda is concerned.

· COMESA Policy Makers Meet in Lusaka
The twenty-ninth meeting of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Intergovernmental Committee opened in Lusaka on Friday 3rd December 2010. The two days meeting looked at different reports and recommendations that that had been made by the Administration and Budgetary Committee, that had been meeting since 30 November to 02 December 2010, ahead of the COMESA Council of Ministers scheduled for 06 December 2010. COMESA Secretary General Mr Sindiso Ngwenya and Zambia’s Acting Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Mukhondo Lungu officially opened the meeting whose theme was ‘Harnessing Science and Technology for Development’.

· Japanese Ambassador presenting his credentials to the COMESA
The Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Akio Egawa, who is also Japan’s special representative to COMESA has announced that Japan attaches particular importance to the relationship with COMESA. The envoy said this on 03 December 2010, when he presented his credentials to the COMESA Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya. Mr. Egawa noted that COMESA represents the largest number of countries , area and population amoung the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), adding that COMESA is one of the major strategic partners for Japan, since COMESA and Japan share the policy priorities towards social and economic development through economic growth in the region.
