Report Launch: “The Danger of Divergence: Transatlantic Cooperation on Financial Reform”

Washington, DC—The Atlantic Council and Thomson Reuters will release a report entitled “The Danger of Divergence: Transatlantic Cooperation on Financial Reform” to the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Wednesday, October 6th at 2pm.

The report rapporteur, Douglas Elliot of the Brookings Institution will give a brief introduction of the report followed by remarks from Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) and Thomson Reuters CEO Tom Glocer.

The report is co-chaired by Sharon Bowles, MEP, Chair - Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, European Parliament; Senator Chuck Hagel, Chairman, Atlantic Council; and Senator Mark Warner, Member, Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

Key findings of the report include:

· The need is urgent: Financial reform needs to be completed on the global level before momentum is lost
· The hardest work is still to come: The G20 has managed the crisis response, but policy implementation will be much more difficult
· The G20 needs to focus: Leader should not have the group take on any new issues before it completes the task at hand
· The stakes are high: There is substantial danger of regulatory arbitrage and of companies shifting their trading activities if rules are not coordinated globally

An embargoed copy of the report can be found at www.acus.org/files/GBE/ACUS_TR_Danger_Divergence_Report.pdf

The report is embargoed until 3pm Wednesday, October 6th.
