USCIS to Hold Special Citizenship Ceremony at Mount Vernon More than 60 Children to Receive Citizenship CertificatesWASHINGTON

—A group of approximately 60 area children representing 26 countries will celebrate their U.S. citizenship at a special ceremony tomorrow at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, Mount Vernon, Va. Sarah Taylor, Washington District Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), will administer a special Oath of Allegiance http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=931696981298d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=d6f4194d3e88d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD> and present the children with Certificates of Citizenship.

A special performance will be provided by “Mrs. Washington and the president’s close friend, ‘Dr. Craik’.” The children, who range in age from one to 17, hail from the following countries: Bolivia; Cambodia; Canada; China; Columbia; Cuba, Egypt, El Salvador; Ethiopia; Ghana; Guatemala; India; Iran; Kenya; Korea; Lebanon; Mexico; Morocco; Nigeria; Pakistan; Peru; Philippines; Sierra Leone; Turkey; United Arab Emirates; and Vietnam.

USCIS periodically holds special ceremonies for children to recognize and celebrate their citizenship, which is generally derived through their naturalized parents or adoption.

Change of Command Ceremony Set for Sept. 9


WHO: Gen. James N. Mattis, US Marine Corps, will relinquish command to Gen. Stéphane Abrial, French Air Force.


WHAT: NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Change of Command ceremony and media availability following ceremony.

WHEN: Ceremony begins Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at 10 a.m. Media interested in attending the ceremony will need to arrive for parking and escort no later than 7:30 a.m.


WHERE: Ceremony will take place on board the U.S. aircraft carrier USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69), at the Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. Media will meet at the Naval Station Tour Office at 9079 Hampton Blvd, next to Gate 5.
