Latin America has its sights on these objectives to eradicate greenhouse effect emissions, and the different points in which each country in the region finds itself with respect to these ambitions, and the role of gas as a transition tool will be exciting topics during LGC 2021 in December The participation of the International Energy Agency in our conference will undoubtedly be an excellent contribution to this conversation. The speakers will be: Keisuke Sadamori, Director of Security and Energy Markets, who will participate in the Opening Ceremony Joerg Husar, Program Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, who will participate in Session 9: "Scaling hydrogen: which, when, how?" LGC 2021 - From overview to in-depth analysis of the sector Our inaugural session will give us a bird's eye view of the key issues of the energy industry in the region. How can gas enable a more flexible and secure energy matrix? What is the way to increase sustainability and manage carbon emissions through gas? We will also investigate the social role of gas, the impact of gas projects on local economic development, prosperity and capacity building, among other topics. Green or blue: which is more sustainable in the short term? What have been the lessons learned from the main pilot projects in LAC, and what are the emerging strategies for producing, storing and distributing hydrogen in the region? Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai co-led the United States delegation to the virtual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting on November 8-9 hosted by New Zealand.  Secretary Blinken and Ambassador Tai engaged with fellow APEC ministers in pursuit of our 2021 priorities, including building a more open digital economy, advancing women’s economic empowerment, strengthening supply chain resilience and trade facilitation, and promoting sustainable economic growth.  A joint statement  was released at the conclusion of the meeting.

APEC is the premier platform for the United States to advance economic policies in the Asia-Pacific region to promote free, fair, and open trade and investment and advance inclusive and sustainable growth.  The United States remains committed to expanding and deepening economic ties in APEC for the benefit of the American people and our partners.

Plan to Conserve Global Forests:  Critical Carbon Sinks 11/03/2021 01:12 PM EDT Office of the Spokesperson At COP26 during the World Leaders Summit Forest Day session on November 2, 2021, the United States announced the Plan to Conserve Global Forests: Critical Carbon Sinks . This decade-long, whole-of-government Plan sets forth the U.S. approach to conserving critical global terrestrial carbon sinks, deploying a range of diplomatic, policy, and financing tools. The first-of-its-kind plan for the U.S. government seeks to catalyze the global effort to conserve and restore the forests and other ecosystems that serve as critical carbon sinks. Subject to Congressional appropriations, by 2030, the United States intends to dedicate up to $9 billion of our international climate funding to support the objectives of the Plan. The United States recognizes that without halting deforestation and restoring forests at scale, we cannot reach net zero emissions by 2050, and we cannot limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. This is not a long-term challenge. It is something we must do immediately, in this critical decade. Forests and other ecosystems could provide as much as one-third of global mitigation by 2030 – by reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and by enhancing the carbon sequestered from the atmosphere through forest restoration. The Plan to Conserve Global Forests: Critical Carbon Sinks has been devised to catalyze even more ambitious global action towards this end. The Plan supports collective goals the United States has previously endorsed, including efforts to end natural forest loss by 2030; to significantly increase the rate of global restoration of degraded landscapes and forestlands; and to slow, halt, and reverse forest cover and carbon loss. The Plan outlines the initial approaches the United States intends to deploy to achieve four key objectives: Incentivize forest and ecosystem conservation and forest landscape restoration; Catalyze private sector investment, finance, and action to conserve critical carbon sinks; Build long-term capacity and support the data and monitoring systems that enhance accountability; Increase ambition for climate and conservation action. To maximize the potential contribution of forests and other critical ecosystems to a net zero emissions world, the United States intends to work with partners to respond to the challenges of halting deforestation, improving land use, and restoring ecosystems at scale. The implementation of specific elements of the plan will align with the priorities of partner countries, to engender ownership and contribute to coordinated policy and regulatory environments. The design and implementation of Plan elements will prioritize inclusion, particularly of Indigenous peoples and local communities, in partner countries. The United States will continue to consult with the full range of partners and stakeholders, including governments of countries with important terrestrial carbon sinks, indigenous peoples, local communities, civil society organizations, commodity-dependent companies, and public, private, and multilateral finance institutions to further refine and advance the Plan.

 Joint statement by the QUAD for Sudan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom, on the developments in Sudan

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom affirm their countries’ stance with the people of Sudan and emphasize the importance of supporting their aspirations for a democratic and peaceful nation.  The protests of October 30 demonstrated the depth of the Sudanese people’s commitment to advancing their country’s transition, and we remain committed to helping them achieve these aspirations.

We endorse the international community’s serious concern with the situation in Sudan.  We call for the full and immediate restoration of its civilian-led transitional government and institutions. We call upon all parties to strive for cooperation and unity in reaching this critical objective.  In that vein we encourage the release of all those detained in connection with recent events and the lifting of the state of emergency.  Violence has no place in the new Sudan, on this point we encourage an effective dialogue between all parties, and we urge all to ensure that the peace and security for the people of Sudan is a top priority.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, and the United Kingdom also stress the importance of the commitment to the Constitutional Document and the Juba Peace Agreement as the foundation for further dialogue about how to restore and uphold a genuine civil-military partnership for the remainder of the transitional period, pending elections. This will help ensure Sudan reaches political stability and economic recovery so that it is able to continue the transitional period with the support of Sudan’s friends and international partners.

Police launch initiative to improve safety for women Following the tragic death of Sarah Everard in March this year, the police have launched a new initiative to make sure this doesn't happen again. Women will now be able to request verification of an officer's identity if they're approached by an on duty, plain clothed officer. It is very unusual for a single plain clothed police officer to engage with anyone. However, if you do find yourself in an interaction with a lone police officer in plain clothes and you are on your own, that officer will provide verification of their identity by putting you in direct contact with their colleagues in the local police operations room. Using a video call, which can either be to your own device, or to the officer’s device, you will be able to see and speak to a uniformed police officer in what will visibly be a police operations room. They will be able to conduct the necessary checks and provide reassurance that the officer is who they say they are and they are acting appropriately. The initiative is initially aimed at women, but anyone can use it.

Thor blimey: Chris Hemsworth heads to our borough Barking and Dagenham is fast becoming the go-to destination for film and video production, and a recently launched advertising campaign for Emirates airlines on Expo 2020 Dubai, starring Hollywood A-lister Chris Hemsworth was produced here and demonstrates the exciting production facilities on offer in the area. The location of the production was managed by filmlbbd, the borough’s film service, which attracts and facilitates film productions across the area. The site that is soon to be the home to Eastbrook Studios, known as Unit A, in Dagenham was chosen for the filming and the whole process took over four weeks’ activity in the borough.
